What's in Store for 2023 Travels

2022 was a good year for travels. It saw a rising trend of "revenge travels" as those who had to cancel their trips in 2020 and 2021 ventured out.

And yet, last year saw a leap in flight delays and cancellations. In 2021, 11.4% of all domestic flights were delayed. In 2022, the number rose to 20.1%. Meanwhile, the number of canceled flights doubled from 1.6% in 2021 to 3.2% in 2022.

With travel ticket and lodging costs rising, will 2023 bring as much excitement as 2022?

Well, the answer is yes.

A study done by Expedia, Hotels.com, and VRBO revealed that 2023 is all about travelers doing "the unexpected." This means doing whatever they want, from going off-grid to connect with nature and doing self-wellness checks to working on the go by being a digital nomad, to soaking in culture and food and fulfilling that travel bucket list.

Even business/bleisure travels are expected to increase in 2023.

2023 Travel Trends

As the world continues to recover from the impact of the global pandemic, the travel industry is poised for a major resurgence in 2023. With vaccination rates on the rise and international borders reopening, travelers are eager to venture out and explore new destinations.

One of the biggest trends in 2023 travel is a focus on sustainability and eco-tourism. With concerns about the environment at an all-time high, travelers are seeking out destinations and experiences that prioritize conservation and sustainable practices. This includes everything from responsible wildlife tourism to sustainable hotels and eco-friendly modes of transportation.

Another trend in 2023 travel is a focus on wellness and self-care. With the pandemic highlighting the importance of physical and mental health, travelers are seeking out destinations and experiences that prioritize their well-being. This includes wellness retreats, spa resorts, adventure travel, and wine tours.

Finally, 2023 will also see a continued rise in domestic travel, as many people choose to explore their own countries and support local economies. With so many unique and diverse regions within countries, there's never been a better time to travel domestically and experience the rich history, culture, and natural beauty that can be found right in your own backyard.
